CSI and Moral Authority

In season 15 episode 8, called the Rubbery Homicide, there was a very interesting story to this particular episode. There is a club where men dress up in rubber suits to look like women. One night one of them got killed and throughout the episode they are trying to figure out who killed the man. The man was dressed up as a popular model and the daughter of the model is who killed the man. She was intentionally trying to kill her father because she thought it was him in the suit but it was actually just a man who stole the suit from her father. The killed him by stabbing him with a nail file. The CSI crew uses many forensic evidence to solve this murder mystery.

As one of the first analysis's of the article CSI and moral authority written by Cavender and Deutsch, they talk about how most of the episodes are murders. This was a murder mystery that the CSI crew solved. There was also a lot of emotional hooks to the episode. There was not emotion from the victims family but more so from the murderers family. The reason she tried to kill her father was because she was so angry with him because he still loved her mother who was a horrible person when she was alive.

There was also an appearance of women in this episode. A woman was the person who found the murder weapon. This puts woman as high as the man in this episode and shows the moral authority of police.

The show used a lot of scientific evidence and forensic evidence to solve this crime. First it started with typical finger print and blood samples to try and find a match. When this failed they found that oil could be at the scene and they used a light to trace the oil and make it appear. This seemed a little unrealistic like the article was saying that they police usually do not have access to all this scientific equipment. As the article said it does validate their scientific status. They explained the purpose of the equipment and helped inform the audience of scientific methods to solve crimes. This shows the moral authority of police using science because it shows the are sophisticated investigators that will do whatever it takes to solve the crime.

I will say during the interrogations of this episode the police were a bit to fast to say who committed the murder. They would almost lie to the people who were being interrogated to see if they will admit to the crime. I know this is realistic but i still dont think it is right. When it came to the interrogation of the actual murderer she seemed to admit to it right away.

This episode is still crime drama episode that appears to be like reality television like the article said. The plot in this episode was very complicated. This was not a typical murder it had a lot of unusual things that made this episode very interesting.

I do think that Cavender and Deutsch's claims hold true to this episode as i mentioned above. The main points listed in that article all seemed to match with the episode. The police had moral authority of policing through science in this episode.
