The Inside Man heist film analysis

After viewing the Inside Man by Spike Lee and analyzing it with the heist films, I realized there are many things that make crime narratives so appealing to certain audiences. First, they create suspense. They do this by having a crime in action and the authorities waiting outside to strike. Viewers also worry about the hostages and what is going to happen to them. This suspense keeps the viewer awaiting to find out what the solution is going to be in the end. The social power in this narrative is very high. The perpetrators have guns and that is their power against the hostages. They tell them what to do and if they do not do it then they die. This is so appealing because there are always people in the movie who do not follow the instructions. We constantly wonder what is going to happen to the people. For example, in the Inside Man when they ask for everyone’s keys and cell phones. The man lies and says it is at home. He is caught and then gets beat to death. The viewers always want someone to go against the rules and hope to get away with it. These heist films are so much fun because they keep you on your toes. You are constantly wondering what is going to happen. This makes the person want to stay and watch to find out what the end solution is to the crime. These movies keep the viewer constantly engaged in the movie.
